(sala effe) — a space for contemporary art, Cremona

Conceived as an experimental platform for contemporary art, (sala effe) aims to foster connections among diverse audiences, creating a dynamic dialogue with both the city and the international contemporary art scene.

The project name references the distinctive f-shaped openings carved into the body of a violin—openings through which its sound resonates and comes to life—while also paying tribute to the prestigious institution that hosts it.

(sala effe) positions itself as a vibrant site of exchange and encounter, operating outside commercial and blockbuster logics, and presenting an innovative programme that will unfold along two parallel tracks: curated exhibitions featuring newly commissioned works alongside significant loans, and exhibitions dedicated to private collections. This second strand constitutes a particularly significant aspect of the programme’s curatorial vision—one that remains largely unexplored in Italy—offering carefully curated opportunities for the public to engage with important private collections that are rarely accessible.

At its core, (sala effe) embraces the ethos of an open and evolving space, operating less like a traditional museum and more like an experimental site for contemporary art.

Each show is conceived as an evolving project—open to reconfiguration and continued development throughout its duration, through changes in installation, multidisciplinary activations, and public events engaging with the city.

The first exhibition presented by (sala effe) will be “La terra piatta è una dimensione lirica del luogo come se regredire fosse inventare”, curated by Paolo Zani, featuring works by Mariia Andreeva, Alighiero Boetti, Caleb Considine, Racheal Crowther, Giorgio de Chirico, Rineke Dijkstra, Jason Dodge, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, John Gerrard, Tarik Kiswanson, On Kawara, Paul Kos, Diego Perrone, Paola Pivi, Pietro Roccasalva, Hans Schabus, and Damon Zucconi.

Running from 19 September 2026 to 14 March 2027, the exhibition explores the concept of space-time as a metaphor for a reality that is never absolute, but constantly subject to interpretation, transformation, and an ongoing pursuit of truth.
